Well Decommissioning

The Institute of Geologists of Ireland recommends a well that is no longer required must be made safe, structurally stable and backfilled or sealed to prevent groundwater pollution and flow of groundwater between aquifers. We decommission wells to avoid pollution of the water supply and to guarantee the safety of the aquifer.
